Brilliant movie.. Canadian OR otherwise!!

I highly doubt anyone will read this because I highly doubt that too many people know about this movie but believe me.. it's an amazing piece of work. Based on true events, this one's a keeper and for anyone interested in watching it.. you can see it on Showcase Diva in Canada on Thursday November 30th at 2pm.

I agree with ya mojotwang this was an excellent movie, hard to watch at times though. I read the book as well and had to put it down a few times to catch my breath and wipe my tears.

Yes... REALLY hard to watch at times. It's hard to believe that people like Billy really exist. I work in a hospital in northern Alberta and one of my co-workers' best friends was Billy's niece. Another great flick (in a similar vein) that is equally as good (and Canadian) is "Love & Hate".. the story of Colin & Joanne Thatcher. I'd love to get my hands on a copy of it again but it's so hard to find and, to my knowledge, only avail on VHS. Cheers!

I seen this when it was first played on tv and I made sure to tape it.I watched It quite a few times over the years but I haven't seen it in about seven years.Great movie that tells an important story.Too bad it ended so tragicly.

I have seen this movie probably like 20 times, and it affects me everytime. I've also read the book a number of times. I live in Queens County, where this happened, but was only a baby at the time. It's hard to believe that one human being can treat another that way....... no wonder Jane snapped. The way Billy treated his own son was horrible. He beat the kid just because he didn't say "thank you...... DAD". Although tragic, it is a great movie, and I think the actors did a great job at playing the parts. Stephen McHattie makes a great Billy Stafford.

I just read the book again, I havent read it since high school, my Eng Teacher showed us the movie in class once believe it or not...I live in Nova Scotia as well, and it this affects me very deeply, both as a Woman, and a Nova Scotian.
It is indeed a movie and a book everyone should know about.

Wow I am very shocked your teacher showed it to the class, my English Media teacher showed us films as well, but I don't think quite to THIS graphic nature. I find it so horrible what Jane went through. She should have had a happy life. She tried so hard. She married a monster. It is so heart-breaking.
Do you still think of her and this story? Do people in Nova Scotia talk about this story?
