Is this the right movie ?????

It is about a woman who has a son - he is part grown - she is homely and meets a man at a bar and he goes after her - she cant believe someone would be so into her - so she falls for him - and he turns out to be this EXTREMEMLY mean man. He tortures her - her son and she has another son with him and he beats this small boy terribly. The things he does to her are absolutely disgusting. He rapes her, sodomized her and beats her alot. This is a true story - which makes it even worse. It was on the womens network in canada - at the time i was visiting there and seen it. He breaks his own stuff in the home i.e. the table chairs and rants alot and does terrible things to his German Shepherd dog - I could tell you some other horrible things he does - but Im afraid IMDB wont keep my post up then. He also is very controlling and jealous and wont let her have a normal life at all. Well the story goes on - and she looks really pale and is not well - and her neighbor woman wont help her at all - she seems to know because her eyes are black because she is being beaten. They live in what looks like to be in a shack - he goes away for a few weeks at a time sometimes. Also, in the end - the oldest boy - now in his teens in the movie - gets a rifle and when his step dad is in a drunken stooper in the truck says he is going to kill him - because things just have to stop - the mother says no- i know they do - and kills her husband with the rifle herself.

It goes to trial and she loses - poor woman - and she goes to prison. One of the bad things is that neighbor is on the stand in the courtroom saying - oh she always looked beaten thats just the way she looks.

Anyone out there --- please help me solve what movie this is. I know it is a gross one. But it is a true story.

Also if anyone knows what this womans real name is.. I need to know.

You are correct, this is that movie. Have you ever read the book? I have read "Life with Billy" a number of times.... I belive there's also another "Life after Billy".

The woman's real name is Jane Stafford.

thanxx. i have figured it out that this is indeed theee film. no i have not read the book.. it sounds like an interesting read! oh and life after billy sounds good too..

i did alot of research bout jane .. but i dont know what happened to her kids later on in life. i wud love to find out. but cudnt find anything.........

do u know anything? what was the book like?

I thought the book was really good. It includes some photos of Jane, Billy and the family. Her name was Jane Hurshman before she married Billy. As far as I know, her kids are in the Queens County area...... Liverpool (which is mentioned in the book and movie).

It's horrible what that woman went through.

Really???? I thought that they were from the Atlantic portion of Canada. I had read from Billy and Jane's niece that they all lived near the east coast of Canada. And that that is where she also committed suicide.. although it is widely believed that she was murdered and did not commit suicide. ----- Yes, I just looked it up and typed her name in Google, and they found her body dead in her car in Halifax, Nova Scotia - Canada.

I agree the terrible things this woman endured are disturbing. Horrifying!

Liverpool (Queens County) is about 1.5 hrs south of Halifax. We are also located about 15 minutes away from where Billy's body was found in the truck.

Can I ask where you are from blondeprincess?

Hi Queenie.

I had no idea that Queens County was a place in Canada. What is the area like? Have you ever driven by or stopped where Billy died?

When you read things in the newspaper or hear things on the news. They always tend to say the biggest nearby city.. so people will associate the area easily. Halifax being well known - I guess was what they chose when writing or telling this story.

This area is right on the ocean... well known for it's beaches!
Yes, we have driven by where Billy was killed. His body and truck were found on the road between Mill Village and Greenfield. The road is close to where they lived in Bangs Falls. (I believe the actually shooting took place in their yard) Bangs Falls is about 30 min away from Liverpool.
You should really try to find the book..... it goes into greater detail than the movie. You might be able to get it at your local library. I was lucky to find it at a used book store. The book is called "Life With Billy" By Brian Vallee. ISBN # 0-7704-2119-9.

Wow interesting. I bet your living area is nice.

You know how in the movie, she shot him in the truck .. and their house and property was a real dump. it looked almost like the likes of a wrecking yard. was that the way their home looked in real life? did it look pretty shabby?

i just wish i cud find out what ever happened to the kids.. like how their lives are fairing in the years since this misery.

Hi Queenie!
I well know I havent asked or written anything about this to you in 2 years. But this story never leaves my mind. I am always remembering poor Jane and what she went through, I wish she had had a happy life. I still wonder what happened to her sons. I heard something about alcohol use and some problems with the law for one of them. Not sure which one.
How have you been? Do you also still think of this story?

Yes, it has been a while since our conversation! I actually still get this book out from time to time and read parts of it. I haven't seen the movie in a few years though. It's always heartbreaking to watch and see what she went through. I have been fine.. how are you doing?

I am good too thank you. Its amazing how often a persons story can pop into our minds and affect ours thoughts and we still have that sense of concern - even years later, lingering questions. She went through unthinkable tortures, the only comfort is knowing she is now at peace. I wish her sons peace and happiness in their lives too.
