Any Good Compared To The 1963 Film?

Just finished watching The Love Eterne, a wonderful story. Both joyful and heartbreaking. How does Tsui Hark's film compare?

You must be joking, "any good"?: It's considered by many who've seen this undisputed masterpiece as one of the best films ever made. Let me tell you that i've seen Love Eterne before and believe me it's nowhere near as powerful film as this one. "Joyful" and "heartbreaking" would've been understating words for this. Since 96 when i saw this film it even slightly changed my whole outlook on life. It's just a great example of a powerful cinema. I really can't describe how moving this movie is.

btw, in my eyes it's also probably Tsui Hark's best film ever or at least slightly behind his Seven Swords.

Absolutely no comparison here. This is a beautiful beautiful poetry of images and music, entangled together in their soulful harmony gently floating through the film that's ending with the potency of breaking and then re-formulating your heart and soul in order to give an enlightening grasp to your life. This is a movie that could possibly change the whole world for the better: finding the love, honesty and peace within oneself.

Love Eterne was a great crowd-pleaser film, no doubt about that, but what Tsui Hark did can be equally compared to what Shakespeare did to his Romeo and Juliet; he practically created the greatest and the most relevant and beautiful love-story in the world. Tsui Hark is probably the only renaissant human being with heart who gave the real -almost a spiritualistic- meaning to what is a love and romance. I have never seen a movie like this and probably will never see again. And i'm very grateful for the singular experience of watching this unforgettable great work of art.

This is a life-changing movie, indeed. No hyperbole, it's THAT powerful. Believe me.

Absolutely agreed with these people. The beauty and meaning of this film simply can not be put into any exoteric criticism or explanation. It's sort of like a "Zen" of the movie realm, you have to feel it. There's no unnecessary story-line around, it's the film right from the start to the end credits strictly just about love, or to put in a better way, this film IS a love.

This unforgettable masterpiece is undoubtedly up there with those best classic pieces of the world cinema of the last century. And i didn't even start to be more subjective in my judgement.
