In Germany a new Special Edition will be released end of the year.

Awesome. I'd almost kill to get my hands on this one. This is one of my favorite movies. To have it in widescreen, deleted scenes, and an alternate ending! Wow!!!

Or you could get the UK 2 disc SE. Disc 1 THEATRICAL cut (105 minutes), Disc 2 Directors cut (128 minutes) and lots of extras.

This wouldn't play on American DVD players, would it?

Most DVD players have a hack code for them and will play any DVD from any where.

go here, http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks
and do a search for your player to see if there is a hack for it.

If there is no hack then I would buy a region free/hacked player and then you can watch any DVD from anywhere.
