After she kissed clay and he mentioned that he was going to take a shower then celebrate with her, why did she pull away from him when he attempted to kiss her again? Was she that pissed off at him for hitting her or was she playing hard to get? If that is also the case then why did she kiss him the first time?

Apparently she allowed a kiss and grope, but then recoiled when he attempted to do it again. I think it is implied that Bridget had reached a saturation point with Clay, and this most recent incident was the last straw for her. Later, during a phone conversation, Clay asks why she really left, and she answers glibly "because you hit me"(or something like that), and Clay believes it is just an excuse. I imagine their relationship was born out of mutual sadism, as it seems that both take pleasure in causing harm to the other. Part of the mystery and brilliance of the movie is that we don't know all the nuances of the plot or motivations. Like when did Bridget decide to unleash her 'last' seduction, the plan to set up Mike to kill Clay? She didn't have that idea when she absconded in the beginning. I feel that her character is elevated(or maybe vice versa) into a femme fatale, so she adheres to certain themes that are encapsulated with that persona. I don't know, maybe some of this helps.

When he kissed her the first time she complained that he smelled bad (it was a subtle complaint... but she got the message across) and that is why he said he would take a shower and why she pulled away.
