What happened was, he recalls that she changed name in the mailbox to Cahill. That was his only piece of evidence against her. But in the final scene Bridget takes out that name-tag and burns it. ie she takes care of the final piece of evidence against her.
How about the transsexual telling the cops about Fiorentino's visit? It would contradict her story.
