Why would he call him sensai Sloan if kickboxing is thai and sensai is..

A japanese word?

It was probably to reference David as his former teacher. A kid I took karate classes with still referred to our former teacher as Sensei Harrington.

Reboot, restart or re-imagining is another word for remake

I think the OP was talking about the inconsistencies of using a japanese word (sensei) to address a teacher who taught thai boxing (or kickboxing or whatever).

I think from Kickboxer 2, i remember the ref said to Sloan to not do aikido (in his fight against vargas, the guy who wrestled when he kickboxed)...HIs gym was known to be for kicboxing but maybe he taught other martial arts that were japanese and Smith enrolled in one of those japanese martial arts classes.

"We've witnessed your human capacity for war. It would absolutely bring more harm than good."

I could be wrong, but it didn't look like the other guy was using kickboxing. I don't know what the hell he was doing though, as I was distracted by his weak ass battle cries.

Sloan didn't even remember him at first, so I'm doubtful that he even taught him very much. I presumed that the guy had learned a Japanese martial art and was just being respectful.

Old topic, but originally before Xian came into the picture David and Eric were doing AmericN style Kickboxing, most practitioners of American kickboxing originally trained in Karate or the like back then as a base style or beginning style, so the Sensei title carried over to pure American kickboxing style gyms.

Well you have to remember that the Japanese makes good stereos and stuff as well as doing Tai Kickboxing.
