Was It Me Or Did Kamel Krifa Look Like He Was Wearing Some Kind Of......

Latex mask over parts of his face?I mean look at his eyes, and especially the scene where he is fighting. It looks like some kind of rubber latex is around the back of his head.

It looked like he'd gone to Michael Jackson's plastic surgeon with a photo of Kurt Sloan and said 'Make me look like this!' then after the bandages came off ala Joker in Batman, he kicked the surgeon in the throat for the botch job.

Anyone else get a Van Damme vibe from his face rather than Michel Qissi?

Funny you should say that because I remember way back in the day as a kid being told there was a rumor that Tong Po in this movie was secretly played by an un-credited Jean Claude Van Damme with makeup.

reply

That's hilarious.

It's obviously not Van Damme, but it's also not the same guy who played Tong Po in the first film.

The interesting thing is that both guys (Kamel Krifa and Michel Qissi) seem to have been gifted their acting careers as a favor from Van Damme. Both have short filmographies with a lot of Van Damme flicks. Krifa's filmography, in fact, is made up almost entirely of Van Damme films.

reply

Yeah. Even as a kid I thought it was weird and didn't make a lot of sense but as you said you could definitely tell it was as different actor though. I knew about the Qissi brothers & their connection with Van Damme but interestingly I didn't know about this second Tong Po actor, Kamel Krifa also had a connection.

Here's a recent video where you can see Van Damme and Kamel just randomly hanging out in LA.

That's one thing I can say about Van Damme: He never forgot who his friends were. As he became a star, he brought his friends up with him.

reply

That's interesting. Maintaining relationships with the lifetime friends of his humble beginnings like that shows character.

reply

If you listen to Tong Po's voice when he kidnap's Sloan's wife, it DOES sound like Van Damme.
