Just wanted put in a general call to the powers that be to make this film available on DVD in the US. PLEASE!!! I saw it in a German cinema class in college and have wanted to show it to friends ever since (not to mention rewatch it on my own...)
You'll probably never see a Region 1 DVD of this film. 99% of Americans don't watch German movies. It won't make some distributer any money, so forget it. That's how it works. If no distributor in your "Region Code Zone" wants to make a DVD, you don't get to have it...that's what they want you to think, anyway. There IS a way around it:
If you want to see the film, buy it from a German online retailer on Region 2 DVD, then download some RegionKiller software for your computer DVD drive, or get the codes to make your DVD player Region Free. Google "region free dvd codes" to get this info. Costs no more than $20.00 to get, and sometimes it's free.
Personally, I bought a bootleg Video CD of "Keiner Liebt Mich" from a Hong Kong online retailer years ago. Still have it, but I am considering replacing it with the Region 2 DVD.
My German professor told me that Disney bought the rights for the movie in the US, apparently to make a US remake. Of course, they never have and probably won't release it on DVD because of the (homo)sexual content.
There are VHS versions out there with English subs, from canada I think.
The DVD format of this movie is available in Korea in Region 3 with Korean subtitles. (Not a bootleg.) It is MOST unfortunate that a Region 1 release is not forthcoming, especially realizing that I orignially saw it at a Dorris Dorrie retrospective at the Art Institute of Chicago Film Institute festival back in 1997. I highly enjoyed this film at the time, especially getting to meet Dorris face-to-face in the Q-n-A session afterwards at the Art Institute.
