Did Lyric die?

Just watched "Jason's Lyric" on AspireTV and it occurs to me. In the beginning of the movie, Jason is on the bus alone leaving town reminiscing. At the end, after his brother has shot Lyric in the chest at point blank range.....Lyric is next to Jason on the bus as he leaves town.

Was Jason just imagining Lyric being next to him on the bus? Did she really die and that was a memory next to him? Seriously, how could she have survived being shot in the chest at point blank range?

I think it was just his imagination and it was supposed to symbolize how her spirit would always be with him.
