Marilyn Frye - Pat's Origin?

I'm reading an essay, "Sexism", by Marilyn Frye from the book "Politics of reality", and in it she talks about ways of greeting men and women. She talked about how a friend introduced her to somebody whose sex she couldn't identify who had the name Pat. Does anybody know if this is where the legend of Pat first originated, or is this pure coincidence?

Either way, it's pretty hilarious.
