Where the idea falls flat.

The reason this film could never be a success is because the entire sketch it is based on revolves around one joke. If you never found the idea of trying to determine the sex of Pat funny (And if you match 99% of the American population, you didn't), then you wouldn't enjoy the same joke being repeated over and over for an hour and a half. The joke didn't work in a 2 minute sketch, why make a whole film?

I don't know why everyone hates it so much. I think it has some of the best quotes ever.
It's not supposed to be serious..and so what if the plots not that great.
Its good damnit.

yeah. pat is very dislikable, but the movie is fun, and way better than many of snl spawned films. so lay off.

You will notice that the people who make movies will do this a lot, especially with SNL. They think that something that is funny in a 5-minute skit can always be made into a movie. Nine times out of ten, it ends up a terrible movie like this one. Now and then it works out, like for instance I saw "Night at the Roxbury" with Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan, thinking it would suck. And I was surprised, due to good writing and good acting by Ferrell, Kattan, and Molly Shannon, it was really funny.

I thought it was funny.
A lot funnier than movies with lame preteen humour.

This movie is truly amazing. I think my life-long infatuation with bad movies can be traced back to early episodes of MST3K and It's Pat. I saw this movie only a little while after it came out and I loved what a crappy, awful movie it was.

40 Year Old Virgin had that same message, and they got it across with decent writing, not an hour and a half of one joke that wasn't all that funny the first time.

With all due respect, a SNL skit might not provide enough of a premise for a 90 minute movie. "It's Pat" may have worked better as a one hour special on a premium cable TV channel.
