Plate Day

I saw a glimpse of this on TV today. The scene was how it was plate day, and that meant the Mother was not to be messed with. She seemed frazzled and was leaving the house with I think a bag of plates. But I only saw a few seconds and it's a hard to find movie. So I'm curious as to what exactly was plate day?
