One thing that always confused me

I'm sure this has been brought up before but I have never seen it explained. So Gloria is calling the lottery office and finds out that a bowling team in Albany had a winning ticket and that they are getting 9 million. The confusing part is why they only get 4 million when they have the same numbers. I mean if only two winning tickets are sold, the winners split the prize evenly, so why does this bowling team get so much more than the they do?

I'm watching it now and there were 16 winning tickets. 64 million divided by 16 equals 4 million each.

I just watched it. There are more than 2 winners, but I was still confused how they ended up with $4 and the bowling team ended up with $9.

Nobody would buy multiple tix with the same numbers to guard against a split prize scenario. I seriously doubt that has ever happened. You buy multiple tix with different numbers to increase your chance of winning, period. But, even if that did happen, $9 is still off.

The bowling team didn't get 9 million. Rosie's character thinks they will. However, after she calls the lottery office she finds out the bowling team only has one ticket and only will get 1 share: 4 million. The scene is early in the movie and might have be cut from some versions of the movie.

I'm watching this movie again and when she calls the lotto office they tell her that the bowling team gets 9. You are probably right about how it was supposed to go in that scene but it was written poorly

You mean Muriel, right? She also found out that others had the same numbers so the more winners there were, the more the prize would get divided up. However, she wasn't sure about the bowling team members because there were so many. She wanted to make sure if they got just a certain amount or do each get the same amount?
