Plot

While the one comment was colorful it didn't give a clear discription of the plot. In this movie did they use colored crystals to identify people? Did they live in a domed city? Trying to find a movie that fits this but it isn't Logan's Run. Any help?

reply

According to my friend she says it is .. I remember the movie too and all of my friends are all "logan's run" .. I thought it was called Dome City but Island City would work maybe... I believe it wasn't a "movie" par say but the piolot to a show before it's time! If it was made now or even 5 years ago with the technology we had visually I think it would have made it. If you find out this isn't the movie can you email me and let me know your findings? [email protected]

Good luck!

I hope this helps a bit. But I am not sure if you were aware that there was a tvh show of Logans Run and maybe that instead just in case you were just aware of the movie. It was the year after the movie and had Gregory Harrison.

reply

Yes, this is that wonderful movie.

Bit late in the game here, sorry. The colour crystals were used to determine which women were compatible to which men. Wearing the crystal was a choice but once you put it one, it went through a serious of colours before stopping on one, which was then the wearer's designation.

I don't remember too much more about the movie...I didn't see it from the beginning and what little I did see, I saw back in 1994. I'd been racking my brain trying to remember the name of this thing for years until I saw Brenda Strong on another show and remembered she was in it.

I remember watching this one summer while i was in elementry school. i saw some similar crystals on Star Trek:TNG and it reminded me of this show.

The entire time i thought this was a movie. Whatever it was, it kept my interest for the two hours it was on.

too bad i cant find it on ebay or amazon. id really like to see it again.

I don't know why but I remember this movie really well even though I only saw it once the year it came out. As I remember it they live in a enclosed city because of the mutants who live outside of the city. The mutants became because of an anti-aging drug that started regressing people into cro-magnons. The jewels that they wore were to prevent them from making babies with people that might birth cro-magnon children. Blue mated with blue, red with red and so forth. It was illegal or something to be with someone from another group. They had to be tested before they could get together with a person. There is a half cro-magnon guy whose mother was raped by one of the mutants. They get him to help find some people that are lost outside the city.

I don't think this was anything like Logan's Run. Anyway I hope this helps. I believe I remember this movie correctly.

The city had some sort of energy curtain, rather than a dome, which extended skyward, and their vehicles entered and exited through a trap-door/ramp.

Due to it's low budget, the interior of the city looked like a shopping mall and residence/office complex, which it undoubtedly was.

The singles bar was color-coded, so those with the corresponding colored marker on their chest would mingle with each other and not with those with a different color. It was illegal to have relations with someone with a different color, since the color indicated genetic characteristics.

The half Cro-mag character's marker was black and he couldn't have sex with anyone.

They also had a transport system which could teleport residents within the city simply by walking through a portal which reminded me of the chrome "tuning fork" portals in the Phantasm movie series. However, in this case, I seem to remember they had to pay with a credit card to use it, and it said "Thank-you for using ATT" each time they stepped through.

As I recall, there were also some sort of energy storms outside, and if you weren't born on the outside or part mutant, the storms would kill you. This is the reason for the shields around the city (besides keeping the mutants out). I'm not sure how these energy storms or the 'wastification' of the earth are explained. Perhaps with everyone turning to mutants, wars broke out, including nulcear ones. It is possible that because of that the storms carry radioactive particles, so maybe that's why the storms are dangerous.

I also recall there being some sort of distress call from the outside. Apparently the search for survivors is still on-going, and some people still live holed up in their homes or various other locations. The city sends out an armored convoy to retrieve the people in trouble. Needless to say they are attacked, and someone dies, etc, and so forth.

I remember that there was one woman that they rescued who fell in love with one of her rescuers and began to pester him a little. Fortunately for him, when she received her crystal, it turned a different color than his.

I also remember there being one character that was one of a series of clones. I can't remember if we saw more than one of him too often, but he was one of the main characters.

reply

Eric McCormack played the clone guy, I remember that. I think we saw at least two versions of him.

Yeah she was pestering the guy who are sister liked. (the sister had been in the city for years and they did not know that the other had survived and they believed that their brother and parents were mutated) and at the end when the color changed her crystal was the same color as the clone's.

ok folks here is the full plot of the movie

once upon a time, sometime in the distant future a doctor by the name of valdoon invented a miracle drug that severely slowed down the aging process as well as all known forms of disease. pretty soon, everyone on earth took this pancea before they knew about the side effects

it seems that about 99.99% of the human populatin had a recessive gene that, when it interacted with the drug turned humans into neandertal like body builders (all of these mutants, called recs or wrecks for the recessive gene were portrayed by body builders and we never saw a female rec)

the survivors who survived the attack by mentally deficient and hostile recs who were formerly their friends, family members as well as strangers, as well as lethal radiation storms that people on the outside were immune to for some unknown reason (they never explained the source of the storms either sought refuge in a place called island city, connected to the outside world through an underground tunnel, whether island city is underground or not was never determined

a team of scientists and soldiers, innoculated against the radiation for 48 hours at a time, ventured out into the wastelands to find other normal survivors.

the team was lead by colonel tom valdoon (kevin conroy, the son of the man who invented the drug

during a mission to find survivors they found a woman named helen (veanne cox) sister to dr sammy helding (Brenda strong) whose husband died. after a rec attack they bring her back to the city, but, they're forced to abandon a team member andy sealle (rick porter) after another rec attack and an approching storm

once back at island city the colonel has less than 48 hours to find sealle befor he dies after his innoculation wears off, to help him, he has to choose between two new recruits cannie sealle (constance marie of the george lopez show) andy's wife or lt. michael mindy (peter koch) a half rec whose human mother was raped by a rec

meanwhil dr. helding is showing her sister around the city and explaining the crystals implanted onto peoples chests. to prevent the births of more recs by trying to eliminate the gene, people have the crystal implanted which changes color to fit your dna. a person with a certain color crystal can only haave personal relations with someone else with that same color crystal

lt mindy has the only black crystal which means he can never have a love life

it is also revealed at this time that they capture, tag and release recs after injecting each of them with various vaccines trying to find a cure for them. helen is furious that they would do that, "why not just kill them?" she says. sammy reminds her that these recs are actually their family, friends neighbors and strangers who never wanted to become mutants in the first place

lt mindy makes friends with another team member named greg 23 (eric mccormak of will and grace. one of some 85 clones created for military purposes but never panned out because each clone had a different personality disorder. 23 was a coward in a fight. three other clones were met, one was overly aggressive (a bully), one stuttered and another was overly shy. mindy and 23 (mostly mindy) got into a bar fight with the other 3 and mindy and 23 became friends

dr helding, it is revealed is attracted to col valdoom but she's already married to a man who never took the pancea and is therefore an ol man in his 80s while she looks in her early 30s at most. he constantly taunts his wife to leave him for valdoon because he never wanted to take the drug and be either a superman like everyone else in the city or another rec

helen is also attracted to valdoon but hasn't received a crystal yet

with less than an hour remaining of the original 48, the team try one more time to try to find andy sealle. because of his heightened senses. lt mindy is able to hear sealle's heartbeat and find him just in time to rescue him in a pit covered with sheet metal and bring him home

back at island city, safe and sound, helen finally gets her own crystal implant, hoping it will turn blue like her sister's and especially colonel valdoon's but is shocked when it turns green instead so then she slides up to greg 23 who, like all of his clones, has a green crystal

he then has a shocked look on his face when he realizes why she did this and everyone laughs at his discomfort

the end

Thank you mythbustfan!! Every so often, I think about this show and wonder what it was. I frequently find it, but then when I think about it again, I can never remember what it's called because Island City just doesn't fit very well. They really do need to redo this.

Because you can't have a scary movie if you leave the shower curtain open! 
