don't understand...

Why would Kingsley's own newspaper put his story in the back pages? Wouldn't he have some say in where they went in the paper? Just a humble observation I made...

reply

It wasn't his paper. It was a paper owned in Chicago. Kingsley even makes reference to it when he's about to pay for Will's "late registration fee".

Harper asks Kingsley "You're willing to risk this young man's life to sell some newspapers?"

and Kingsley replies under his breath to a crony "If it gets me back that warm office in Chicago I will."

I think he even says before that event that "McCain News Syndicate will cover the boys registration fee."

in any event, Kingsley didn't own the paper he wrote for

Yeah, he wrotet he articles, but it was the editor's job back in Chicago to arrange the paper and decide what goes on the front page. I believe Kingsley makes another reference somewhere about "I just hope he lasts long enough to get me that big promotion, that's all."

and as mentioned above, he said when paying for Will's fee, "If it gets me BACK to that warm office in Chicago." Meaning he'd been demoted and was probably on the bad side of his editor, who of course, kept pushing his stories to the back where nobody would care to notice them.
