I don't think he had any other intentions than to catch the killer .... but some of the scenes with him and Anna had some sexual undertones that made it a bit unsettling to watch. And then the comment she made at the end was also odd.

I think he was a genuine man, but at the same time they made him out to be something more than a (ex)cop doing his job.
