Whose Papa?

In the scene when Beethoven is showing young Karl how to play 'Fur Elise' and telling him about when he was youmg, why does he say, "Your Papa I loved most of all?" Karl's Papa would have been Beethoven's father, Johann, yet we know that the person Beethoven loved most of all was HIS Papa, his grandfather, Ludwig.

reply

Young Karl's papa was Ludwig's brother.

reply

Well it's still not right because Beethoven had little time for his 2 brothers, calling them imbeciles and idiots! It was his Grandfather he loved most.

Beethoven's dad that beat him all the time??? I don't think so. Beethoven was referring to his brother, Karl's father, that he loved most of all. Remember that Beethoven was close to his brother until he married his "immortal beloved" (unbeknownst to his brother) which made Beethoven sort of bitter and envious of his brother's relationship with her.

I'm not convinced. Beethoven's Grandfather died when Beethoven was 3 but he idolised him, always keeping his picture hanging above his piano. I just can't see him saying he loved Caspar most of all.

I'm just anwering based on the context of the movie...not real life. The movie made no mention of his grandfather, only the abusive relationship with his own father and a happy realtionship with his brother until he married his "immortal beloved." Based on that information I believe he was referring to his brother.

Yup, lolliepops19 is correct. As far as how it's presented in the movie, Ludwig is telling young Karl that he loved Caspar, Karl's father, the most of all.
