Amadeus

I just wanted to say that Amadeus was a campy childish movie, with no emotional punch or revelations. It became a cool thing to do bandwagon like Titanic. It is a scar on cinema for all time it seems.

How is it possible that this movie is obscure while Amadeus is popular even to this day ? What a sick and stupid world we live in.

Revelations? So Immortal Beloved has a twist where the woman he hates was actually his lover and his nephew was his son. That sounds pretty campy to me. Amadeus was campy but the themes it deals with extend beyond its characters and are about humanity in general, which is why people consider it a better movie. Immortal Beloved relies too much in the importance of Beethoven himself

100% agreed. Immortal Beloved is at least 10x the movie Amadeus was. The fact that this wonderful movie that every person I have introduced to loved was so completely ignored by the Academy while Amadeus was bathed in honor remains one of the most inexplicable facts in the history of cinema. The ONLY thing Amadeus has over Immortal Beloved is that it came out first. Is anyone honestly going to try to tell me the performance by the guy who played Mozart comes even close to the master class in acting Gary Oldman puts on?

reply

The main character in 'Amadeus' is actually Salieri (F. Murray Abraham), so, well... But Oldman was better, still.

We can't be lost; we don't know where we're going.
All that matters is that we're going.

Amadeus was a superior film imo. I saw the musical too which was equally brilliant.
