*MISTAKE*

Well as far i understand the film is set way back when Ike Eisenhouer was President, so this would be well be Godfather Part 1 was made...so why does Tim Robbins impersonate him in 1 scene...The Godfather was still yet to be made!!! P.S. This film is much BETTER than 6.0 out of 10!

reply

He's not impersonating The Godfather, he's impersonating *Brando*! You never heard of _The Wild One_?

reply

That is a good point...but Brando is famous for that voice...the cotton buds, etc. i still think its a mistake!

reply

Actually, that voice isn't that much different from how he's alwasys sounded.

reply

YOU ARE ALL WRONG I DISCOVERED A MISTAKE AND YOU GUYS ARE TO NAIVE TO ADMIT IT!

It's been a few years, but I'm quite sure the Brando quote he used while on the bike was from "The Wild One", (1953).

As ever,

PS: I agree. This film deserves much better than 6 of 10. -d-

One question: if you really did find a mistake, why isn't it listed among the Goofs?

reply

what did he say that supposedly is a quote from godfather????

reply

hey carter, go *beep* yourself.

He did quote Marlon Brando from a movie, it must of been something Marlon did from the early 50's. People are idiots, Marlon Brando made movies before and after Godfather, dumbass, he's been an actor since the 40's/50's. People have no brainpower, they think just because someone quotes Marlon Brando they are quoting him from The Godfather, I think he's always sounded the same.

The movie connections page from this movie lists this as spoofing "The Wild One" when Robbins's character imitates Brando, and the movie connections page from that movie also lists that scene from IQ as a spoof, which, I think, quite clearly indicates this is not a refence to The Godfather.

reply

Gotta' agree with Carter. While it may have been a quote from The Wild One, (no idea if it is, but that would make sense) Robbins clearly was imitating Brando's cotton-in-cheek Godfather affectation.

I consider it a huge gaff, though it certainly doesn't ruin this wonderful film.

reply

No, it's not a mistake, because TIME DOESN'T EXIST!!

Jeez... didn't you guys watch the movie?

;)

reply

Well in the movie they state that time doesn't exist. There is no present because the world goes to fast so the future is already the past. So maybe they decided they could do with a little leway with time....?

reply

What year was this movie supposed to take place in anyway? I couldn't figure it out.

Tomorrow's just your future yesterday!

reply

yeah i know... i also want to know when is the story happening:)
i mean... ed was wearing allstars (if you looked carefuly )when he was
saving the racquet from the tree :)))

reply

I think if you watch enough Marlon Brando films, you'll see he talks like this in quite a few movies. The cotton balls just contributed a little to the accent, but mostly to appearance, as Brando wasn't quite so chunky then.

Also, I think I've seen Tim Robbins do a "Godfather" impression and it was more spot on than the quotes in this movie. If he was really trying to imitate Brando's Godfather, he would have.

reply

Marlon Brando was in a very popular movie, "On the Waterfront," released in 1954. He speaks with that typical Brando voice in that film. It's perfectly appropriate for Ed to mimic Brando from this popular film.

reply

Incorrect.

For the Godfather, Brando stuffed cotton balls in his cheek. That's how he achieved that unique semi-slurred accent. Brando does not sound like that in any other film, and it's THAT accent that Robbin's character imitates. (at least, it sounds like that specific "Godfather" voice to me)

It's a mistake.

reply

It's not a MISTAKE, they just didn't care.

reply

You're Wrong. Even in A Streetcar Named Desire, Brando's voice had that slurred drawn out tone. It's only because when most people imitate Brando they do the Godfather that you are making the connection.

reply

It's obviously THE WILD ONE. Robbins rode a motorcycle like Brando in THE WILD ONE and he mimicked Brando as he appeared in the same movie.
