I'v read a translated version of it. And it is terrific. Probably one of my favourite books/

What's the translated version called, and where is it published?

"To Live" by Yu Hua. You can get it on Amazon.
I really enjoyed it. Quite different in many ways from the movie, but very very good.

I can read Chinese, so it's pretty good for me to enjoy the original words. Mr. Yu is one of the most talented writers in my heart. He has the fantastic ability to grasp and understand the lives of ordinary people. I love his detailed description. Sarcasm makes me laughing and then not being able to laugh at all.

Just finished reading it this afternoon. If not for having to go to work, I'd've finished it in a single sitting. It was absolutely fantastic; easily one of the most powerful books I've read in my life. I cried at several points, something that books rarely make me do. Several elements were changed for the movie, yes, but the book and film both carry the same characters and story with the same level of power and beauty. I just want to snap up anything and everything I can find by Yu Hua now.
