Did he fight in 1949 in the KMT or communist party?
Confused on this point. Thought it was KMT, but then he gets commended as a hero of the 'liberation' when he gets back??

Fugui later says that besides perfroming he was also a canoneer (anyway, was handling a canon somehow) for the Communist army. It is in his certificate, and that's why he was away in the war for such a long time. And Chungshen remained in the army even longer as a driver.
