Question on the DVD release

I bought the Australian Madman version of this wonderful film last week, and finally got around to watching it yesterday. However, the first ten to fifteen minutes of the DVD had quite a significant amount of combing, mostly when there was a lot of movement. It was quite irritating, but luckily it disappeared after about fifteen minutes and I didn't really encounter it on the rest of the DVD, which looks just fine. I have heard that the Australian version is supposed to be a transfer of the American DVD, or so I read. I was wondering if anyone has the American MGM version of this film. If so, have you perhaps encountered this combing problem on that DVD version as well?
