First hour of this movie.. Oh My Gooooooooooooooooood

Before the film took a nosedive in character development and plot lines.. It was on track to be the funniest movie I've ever seen.

EVERYTHING from when Norville begins work at Hudsucker industries, to his rise to fame over the hula-hoop, is just perfect humor. Unbelievable they were able to pack so much humor into the first act of the film.

Amy Archer.. The "Go eagles" song, Bruce Campbell's little role.. the "blue letter".. Holy crap How, Coen brothers? How??

Agreed. Second hour kind of fell flat.
I thought everything was mostly downhill after the suicide.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who really liked the first hour (or so) of the movie, but didn't really care for the second. It's really a shame; I felt the movie had a lot of potential to be more than it ultimately ended up being.

Wrong. Wrong. Also, wrong.

The entire movie is wonderful. I don't see the second half being bad.

Believe me I love this like nobody's business and its still one of my all-time favs....That said I also felt that when Norville hits rock bottom something feels missing, I think its the emotional element. I can laugh at Norville but I don't know if I can care enough to see him go off the building even though its a great sequence with angelic Hudsucker it still doesn't (pardon the pun) ring true enough for me. If I had to give it a rating it would be a 9.5 because it was SO near perfect except for the emotional arc.

You first :-)
Care to elaborate on why the second hour is (much) weaker than the first?

reply

I wish I knew. Even when I had it fresh in my mind, I couldn't quite put my finger on it.

I was kinda iffy about the second half of the movie too, but then I realized that it fit perfectly with the rest of the film. I love this movie.

Agreed. I loved the first hour too. But the second was not that bad, it just wasn't as good as the first.

The emotion was completely superficial pasted on by the Spartacus music.

I'm just here to agree. I also really enjoyed the first hour or so. Iaughed out loud a few times, too. And then I pretty much couldn't wait for it to end once they tried making me care about a guy who acted like an empty cartoon character for the whole movie.

I liked the whole movie. So there!
