ok thanx that explains it lol ok seriously i dont question movies that often i usually jus do say hey its a movie but i jus had 2 ask on this 1 and really your right theres no explenation 4 this but its a movie

reply

it's not weird in my opinion, i think it happens in real life. some people are attracted to people a lot different from themselves.

reply

lol that's exactly what I was thinking yesterday she's all poetic and loving dead poets and he's runs around saying aiight LOL don't know how that works.

reply

Maybe it's because he's rich, remember when Gary says that he's the State Senator’s son?

reply

I always thought this was weird, even as a kid. Had to be the money thing..
But then again, Brooke didn't seem to be the kind to care about that sort of thing.

I guess I'll cut my losses, and turn my tricks at the magic show..

Uh uh, no way, no how. SEE YA.

I wouldn't say she's a goth. She has elements from several early-mid 90s rebellious elements including goth and grunge. As for her boyfriend, he had the same grunge inspired look, but added that "urban" flavor because that's what kids do. Especially ones in insulated rich communities. IRL Sewickley Academy has a dress code and wouldn't stand for either of them.

reply

I'm not white, but I'll go ahead and take a (logical) stab at this one by endorsing what another poster says further up the thread.

Sometimes folks are attracted to opposites. I think his mannerisms that attempted to channel African-American Urban attributes didn't necessarily drown out the fact that he was a Caucasian young man with just enough social parallels to match her identity characteristics as well (if she is a Goth chick, she is still a fairly wealthy white girl from a middle-class suburb). Both of these characters are dealing with duality in a sense.

~love this movie; terrific comedy classic and quite underrated..

I'm not a control freak, I just like things my way

~SPOILERS AHEAD~

~SPOILERS~SPOILERS~SPOILERS~AHEAD!

I watched this movie again after 21 years and I thought "wait she's goth and he's a vanilla ice wannabe" no wonder he cheated on her.~spoiler~ lol The 90s had a lot of subcultures. Their friends were grunge types to add on to the imbalance. So the whole thing was just shades of the 90s era of teen subcultures. That's what I loved about this movie it grabbed on to the essence of the 90s.I loved how Sinbad mentioned Pearl Jam and everyone got lit.lol Where else would you see a goth girl with a vanilla ice wannabe for a boyfriend and grunge teens as friends than a 90s movie? I guess it's a cliche because in "Big Momma's house 2"(which almost have the same primace of Houseguest) Kat Dennings played a rebellious goth girl and went to a club where all the girls were "twerking" to Avenged sevenfold.Goth girls and hip hop a cliche in family comedies and porn thanks bossdog677 for referring to that niche in porn.lol

reply

Brooke's bf was actually a poser, kind of like a Vanila Ice.

It is quite simple really. If you are somewhat cute and giving it up without question you will get a guy you want. Plus her father is a lawyer so that adds to it.

Plus he has he wrapped and will do anything for him and he has side pieces. He knows if he has to work one too hard and gets no where that he can revert back to his set in stone one.

Not sure the terminology today but that is how I did it in mine.
