This Film Badly Wants To Be Like The First One

So many elements of this film tried to emulate the original

The training scenes with dodgy music
Connor's beige raincoat
The villain taking one of Connor's loved ones for a dangerous drive
Hints of Queen music in some of the soundtrack

Any others?

Connor being questioned by the police

His new mentor gets beheaded by the main villian

The villian Kane tries to talk like the Kurgen

Connor and Kane talk in a church

Connor uses a steel bar on Kane, similar to when he used a steel bar on the Kurgen.

I agree with you completely. It has been many years since I saw either Highlander or Highlander III, but am researching them now as part of a uni project. The one thing that I can remember clearly about Highlander III (aside from the highly unlikey way that Macleod's sword gets smashed to dust) is that there was a list as long as my arm of parallels between the two movies.

They even got a director who had previously directed music videos, like Russell.

Well I didn't expect a kind-of Spanish Inquisition!

at least it isnt another highlander 2

It is similar to orginal, but it is good, much better than the quickening.

I noticed this the first time I watched it. But after the way the original ended, what else could they do but copy the original? I'm not sure what was originally planned for HIGHLANDER 2, but it's kind of hard to make a sequel where the goals of the hero and villain are the exact same as before.

The villain taking one of Connor's loved ones for a dangerous drive

And immediately following that Kane taunts Connor via phone. Such a fecking pathetic reach for imitation.

Connor being questioned by the police

Just like the first film, the whole police-investigating-a-headhunter plot line was started without a resolution... Although at least in the first film they implied that Nash/Connor was off the hook following an eye witness of the Kurgan in action.
