The deeper meaning of Heavy Weights

Think about the origin of names. Jerry's last name of Garner obviously originated back thousands of years from his ancestors being able to GARNER things from other people. Attention, sympathy, respect etc. So when modern-day Jerry is unable to GARNER any sympathy or understanding from either Maury Garner or even his grandmother, that is a sign that Jerry is not living up to his name sake.

Look at the only other camper who had a last name: Burnbalm, Joshua
It is EXTREMELY significant that Jerry and Josh were the only 2 campers to have last names. Josh was the reigning king of the camp, Jerry was the newcomer. Josh's last name undoubtedly comes from a lineage of people who burned balm, in other words Josh's ancestors were users of candles, and not just users but actually pioneers in the use and development of them, to the point where they actually chose a last name to represent this. What this means is that the Burnbalm tradition was one of seeking to extend work productivity by increasing the amount of work hours in a day with the advent of candle light. This displays a gift for technological innovation and a never-say-die attitude.

Josh lived up to his namesake by cleverly devising a plan to get himself back into camp after he had been kicked out, succeeded in his quest to return to his throne. It is only after Burnbalm returns that the raid on Perkis' cabin is orchestrated; this is an offensive quietly led by Josh, not Jerry. While it appears that Jerry begins to take over towards the end of the movie, in reality Josh never releases his iron grip on the throne of fat camp. Josh is the one who is entrusted with the extremely important and difficult task of luring Tony into the trap door, a plan so precisely crafted that one MUST assume it was devised by the innovative mind of a Burnbalm, not the wandering mind of a Garner who has given us no indication to believe that he is capable of living up to his OWN name, let alone advancing into the realm of others.

Interesting take.

But there is at least one other character with a last name. It's said in the weigh in scene before parents day. The first person to step on the scale, Perkis reads from the clipboard "Philip Rubenoff" or something like that...

"Alright let's get this bull sh!t over with..."
-Larry David, Curb Your Enthusiasm

Ben Stiller's villian (even if his plans were actually to make the kids healthy) was named Tony Perkis - similiar to Tony Perkins from Hitchcock's "Psycho"(1960)

I didn't even notice that a then-unknown Judd Apatow wrote this....interesting..

Amanda Bynes is hot and Lindsay Lohan is not.

I can't believe there isn't a single comment on this thread about how this is either completely insane, or brilliant satire.
