THe film is very literal to the book

What do you mean by the film is very literal to the book?
Most people could agree that the film does no justice to the novella.
I'm just looking for opinions from both sides on why it does or doesn't do Conrad justice.

I would have to say that it is rare that any film does justice to a piece of classic literature. However, in this instance we have a disgusting interpretation. While there is some argument that the cinematic quality is the greatest flaw of the film, leaving little room for further analysis; one could also argue that the interpretation of the writer/director is itself unfounded in Conrad's novella. The film grasps for verisimillitude and falls desperately short.

The film was a disappointment on many fronts. The film makers should have looked at Apocalypse Now. Different setting, different time, but filled with tension of a journey to a darker place. Unfortunately this was lacking as were many other things in Heart Of Darkness.

I didn't see anything on the webpage listed that allowed one to petition to have this released on DVD.

As Heart of Darkness is the 2012 Academic Decathlon novel, I'm sure that there would be a big market for the DVD version among the various team coaches around the country.
