Not bad


The excessive violence ruins it. One scene will be lighthearted but then in another scene someone is shot to death for no reason.

Yeah, the movie came off a little too dark and mean-spirited for me to really work as a comedy. It has its share of gags, sure. But for every one of those, we'd get ten or so scenes of people getting horribly killed(I really don't think the dad getting shot in the mall was necessary). Chow's later works, namely God of Cookery and Kung Fu Hustle, did a much better job balancing the typical Stephen Chow humor with some of the darker stuff. In hindsight, this movie just comes off a little mean-spirited.
