As my title says, this is a great movie. But I hadn't heard a single thing about it until I saw it on the $5 rack at Wal-Mart, and I just recently bought it off the $5.50 rack at Target after having seen and loved it. I was just wondering, does anyone agree with me that it seems kind of underrated?

shareThe chemistry between Shirley McLaine & Nicholas Cage is excellent! Her sarcastic witty comments played against his pain expressions of being trapped into looking after her make for an enjoyable rainy afternoon movie. It stands up to repeated viewing. I love it when he finally stands up to her! A must see!
shareThis surprising little sleeper seemed to have gotten past quite a few people, msyelf included. This was a clever movie with a rather imaginative story where movie stories are concerned with charismatic starring performances by the leads. MacLaine adds another unique portrait to her sterling gallery of eccentric characters.

Although the personal assistant (Richard Griffiths?) character was hilarious, and I enjoy Nic Cage movies, this one is manipulative and completely implausible. The kidnapping, the driver, the shootings in the hospital - these things were unbelievable and made me feel like someone had literally hijacked the premise of the movie on the producer's table in Hollywood.
The music made me want to keep a trashcan next to me for vomit.
Don't feel you have to hold back now...how did you really feel about this movie?
shareI dont like it either goddamn it was boring and Nicolas Cage sucks in everything he does. He tries to be a tough guy but ends up looking like a fool, IMHO.
shareI am beginning to think that I was one of the few who saw this in the theater. I thought from the previews that it looked funny so I went and saw it. I never regretted it. Shirley MacLaine was wonderful as Tess. Well, she has been in all the movies that I have seen her in....but that's beside the point. Guarding Tess was an awesome movie, one that I have seen many times and I am sure that I will see it many more times.

I watched this late one night on cable. It's got one of those titles that sounds famous but actually isn't lol. I enjoyed it very much. It was a nice movie.

I think this film is rated accordingly. It does have that early 90's comedy feel that seems a little dated now, and the Cage-MacLaine relationship in this film is the only noteworthy feature.
This film is a 6 or 7/10.
I love this film too - I like almost anything involving US secret service - such as In Line of Fire
shareIt is a simple, small movie. Go in without expectations and you will be well rewarded. I hesitate to state how much I love this movie, but it is very well made. Great characters and scenes that have stayed with me for years. It only gets better with time, unlike most movies.
