Where Does This Take Place?

I thought I heard Uncle Joe say "Long Island (something)" when he was on the phone pretending to have a senile moment and Danny is getting him water in the office. I don't remember if they mention a location, though. Anyone know?

They don't get overly specific, but it's clearly set in the NYC area. Yes, the company he's trying to call in that scene - that has a Fieldstone telephone exchange number which would've been one used in the NY area, is called Long Island Hauling. But there are other references.

Joe says his mother abandoned him and his brother in a home in Albany. Robin's apartment is in the Bradbury Building, which has been used as a location for many NY-based movies based on its architecture (even though it's actually in LA). The street outside where the butler and Molly are standing is clearly meant to be NYC, and the shots through the windows at Robin's apartment and the hospital ward where he goes to get Joe are all dressed to imply they're in NYC. And Joe's mansion was filmed on Monteria Estates, which is another California location that has been dressed up as an up-state NY home in the past.

So while they don't say exactly where it's set, that it's in NY is implied heavily enough to be inferred.

The less a man makes declarative statements the less apt he is to look foolish in retrospect.
