ATROCIOUS!

I'm really sorry, I don't usually expend the effort on writing posts that are just hatchet jobs, but this particular film was so terrible, I felt I had to, just to get my own back on it!

I work in media services and I've had to watch this movie prior to it being broadcast on TV, and while for the first 5 minutes or so, I was looking forward to a fun little Graeme Green-esque tale about a hapless diplomat in Africa, the woefulness of the script, direction and acting eventually engulfed me and I started to feel angry that I was actually having to sit through this and devote 90 minutes of my life to it.

Gary Oldman is plainly no fool and apparently bailed out of the production early on.
For the life of me I can't understand why quality actors like Connery, Lithgow and Rigg stuck it out.
I would guess it might be for the off-camera reasons more than the work they were being asked to do.
Actors are just like the rest of us and the thought of spending 6 weeks in Africa, seeing sights and enjoying breathtaking scenery, with a paycheck attached probably seemed like a nice little prospect. And with golf courses nearby, Sir Sean would have been happy.

I really can't be bothered to go into much more detail as to why this movie stinks so bad, but I'll just leave you with this little gem of wordplay as a random example:
Priscilla talks about her ex-fiancee and breaking off the engagement.
MORGAN: How long was it?
PRISCILLA: How long was what?
(I could almost hear the bloody swannee whistle!)

Can't you read? It says SPOILERS!
