I thought this was one of the most entertaining, in the series

I have no idea, why G fans hate on this one. I thought it had the most character development, in almost all of the Heisei era films. Mikis pretty much a staple character in the Heisei era and besides the Biollante film, she generally has nothing to do. In this film, shes front and center and they even give her a love interest [which really doesnt do anything for me, but its nice none the less. I'm sure the actress and female fans (probably, the few out there) were very happy with that].

The story was actually engaging and i didnt sit through it, just waiting to watch the battles. Besides the battles, what is it that G-fans are looking for? If its a lesson, about taking care of the earth, well this one has that as well. The fact that it tied in, not just one, but two Godzilla films, shows that they cared about some sort of continuity, within the series. Given that most of these films, were released a year apart from one another, I thought the script was pretty solid and better than some of the others.

I thought the special effects and suits were fantastic as well. Space Godzilla looked excellent and I liked the idea, that he got his powers from the crystals (which in turn got their power from the tower). Godzilla pretty much looks like he always has (which i've always been pleased with in the Heisei era). The only thing that i thought could've been done better, was Baby Godzilla. To me, he looked alot better in Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II. In this one, he kinda looks rushed, like maybe they didnt spend all that much time designing and making him(perhaps it was a budget concern, but this film seems like, maybe it had a bigger budget?), which is understandable, considering how much little time, he spends in the film. Even still, i thought perhaps maybe, they couldve made him look more life like. He just looks like a cutesy, rubbery little dinosaur, but he is geared more towards children, so... Also, I thought the destruction scenes were very well done as well and i like that they usually take place at nighttime. It adds to the dramatic tension.

All in all, i really enjoyed this installment and i can't understand, why it gets such a bad rap. Then again, i usually tend to enjoy the installments that die hard G fans despise. Godzilla vs Biollante is my favorite in the series and that gets grilled too. I thought Biollante had the most original story and took the series in a different direction, rather than recycling older foes. It seems like whenever Toho tried to do something different, the fans always were against it, which is a shame because the Heisei era IS a different series from the Showa era.
