This movie is awesome, once again Lori steals the show. Micheal Boatman was good to. Micheal Ironside is also good.

Lori Petty = good movie

Very solid cast w/ lots of good characters. Kept my interest.
I'm a Petty fan anyway.

This film was utter garbage. Every single character was a simple sterotype with no depth whatsoever. Its lack of cinematic ability is completely dwarfed by its total inability to get even the simplest matters of law even close. Quite honestly, Night Court was a more realistic presentation of courtroom procedures than this schlockfest.

I enjoy Elliot Gould a great deal, as well as Michael Ironside and Michael Boatman. I was also looking forward to see Bernie Casey and M. Emmett Walsh. Unfortunately, the script and directing were so hamhanded that even good performances couldn't have saved it, even if these folks had delivered them. Ice Cube has also shown that he has quite serviceable acting skills. It's a pity that they weren't displayed, or even needed, in this waste of film.

Amen to that.

The legal scenes may have felt researched and authentic, but my 3 years of law school and 20 years since then tell me they were ridiculously inaccurate.

EXACTLY.

This movie was INCREDIBLY BAD. Also, RACIST, which is ironically hilarious considering what the film is about.

It came on IFC late last night so I watched it...and was blown away at how incredibly AWFUL it was.

They might as well have put devil horns on all the evil white people in this movie.

I would have understood if possibly the movie was taking place in 1961, but, sadly it was not...

Here's what you can learn from this film:
All white people are racist, sexist, violent idiots.
Only minorities are victims of racism.
Only when a black man and a white woman come together will these evil racist cops be taken down.

Seriously. I could make a better movie than this by farting on a camera.

This movie had a lot of potential, and while it did fall short of that potential, I wouldn't go so far as to say it was garbage.

It was a good story, with really good casting.

Yes, the direction wasn't as tight as I've seen from a lot of other first-time directors, although there were a few shots here and there that I really liked.

Yeah, the script could have used some fine-tuning. It's not Mamet... but, it gets across what it wanted to.

Again, the best things about this movie is the cast choices. Solid work from Michael Boatman, Lori Petty, Michael Ironside and Ice Cube. Decent work from extensive supporting cast led by Bernie Casey.

I thought the lighting was peculiar. Lots of stark white lighting from below (especially in the courtroom) which gave an ominous look to the scenes. And too many silhouette shots with characters agains a brightly lit backdrop (opaque windows etc.). A decent mystery though, which had me pausing numerous times to try to figure stuff out.

It's an interesting story, but I wouldn't say it was an excellent film. This film as a lot going for it, yet it falls flat. The acting is solid, but the pacing is off. As soon as a little bit of tension begins to build the plug is pulled and it all goes down the drain. I still like this film, I just think it could have been better... much better.

It felt like a "social message" ad, you know the equivalent of a corporate video to promote good values...cringeworthy film.
