Questions about the movie!!

I have a few questions regarding the movie. I'm hoping someone can answer them for me.

1. Where were the coins the whole time?!?! I know Tim switched them at the end but where were they hidden before then?

2.Was Tim's "password" friend really real??

3.What was with the treasure map?!?! Was it really made to throw Bobby and Carl off so Tim can spend alone time with Dad or was the map real and really did lead to the coins?!?!?!

HELP!! Thanks!!

No official answers I don't think but my guesses are that the coins were in the locker until the end (well, virtually the end) of the movie before Timmy switched them. As for his "friend" - I don't think he was real. And the treasure map... I think a clever red herring from Timmy. A little of his character of Kevin McCallister in there I think. Nice!! Cool movie overall. Just aired on BBC1 in England.

1. The bag with the pennies in it were hidden in the locker, and the bag with the actual coins was on the mannequin at the mall.

2. The friend was real

3. The map didn't lead to the coins. It was definitely a fake.

I didn't see the begining of this movie...what were the coins? Why did Tim have the pennies? What did the pennies mean?

Wow I know it's been 10 years but I'll go ahead and answer.

I just rewatched this film and am leafing through the novel. It's a really funny WiLd film.

According to the novel and even at the end of the film.....

1) he switched the bags/places. So originally it was in a storage locker. However he discovered Theresa was really a spy before she saved Timmy. So that's why he switched places. But not really sure if the bag was full of pennies on the mannequin even if it was a full bag. In the novel when Timmy pointed it out Ray pushed it aside and Timmy started thinking about a certain plot. As for the pennies they were either Ray's or just his. Also it was for a final FAIL SAFE. He knew Ray would get cocky either way and try to take the coins one way or another. Therefore he had to do something because he didn't want Ray to go back to Folsom. And that's exactly what happened. They arrested Bobbie and Ray but when they found that there was just pennies in the bag they had to let them go. Since the coins would then be recovered by a tip from Timmy there really would be no reason to send Ray and Bobbie to jail.

2) he seemed real but I'm not 100% sure. I think though the friend was long distant but still a simple phone call would act fast.

3) according to the novel he just made it. Therefore I think it was a ploy to get Carl and Bobbie out of the way. The map obviously led to the church to of course get Bobbie and Carl into trouble. The way I see it is that Bobbie and Carl were totally bad influences on Ray and Tim was trying to break him away from that. This also makes sense because whilst at the ice cream shop Tim suggests turning the coins in but it doesn't work. But yeah, the map obviously led to the church which seem like a LOGICALLY PLACE. And of course Bobbie and Carl would get caught for well how would it go even if it didn't happen that way in the church? They'd maybe pretend to be detectives looking for rare coins or some bull story they'd come up with and basically within 5-20 minutes they'd unintentionally reveal that they stole the coins. I mean there were a thousand possible ways it could have played out but in the film Bobbie thought it was in some church box while it was only wine and of course the police were called and they were arrested. And yeah the map was confiscated which gave evidence that they were most likely looking for the coins. Remember Timmy did mention that he's in the 95th percentile of his class, so this was a legitimate clever plan he came up with.

Just my only thing then is what happened with this "Dobbs" guy and how did Timmy explain the grand finale to his friend? Did his friend destroy the tape.?
