Terry Bogard vs Ryu

To true Fatal Fury and Streetfighter fans who do you think would win in a fight between the two heroes Terry Bogard and Ryu? I am talking anime wise and game wise.

In my opinion I think Terry Bogard takes it.

I'm going to go with Terry Bogard on this one, he just has much more heart than Ryu, Terry fights for peace, Ryu fight for himself.

reply

Thats a tough call, but I'd have to vote for Terry, since I'm more of an SNK fan.

If it were Terry vs. Ken though, I'd have to go with Ken.

reply

I think Terry Bogard too, I am a huge Street Fighter (Capcom) and King Of Fighters (SNK) fan. Both fighters are good at what they do, Terry Bogard has honed his skills from learning various types of martial arts by travelling throughout the world while Ryu only learnt Shotokan Karate.
They are both strong fighters and good at what they do but Terry Bogard - a man who defeats the God Of War itself isn't a man to be underestimated.
It will be a close match, Terry Bogard will definitely be able to take on Ken but Ryu will be a tougher opponent. So Terry will win but only by a fraction, it will be a close match by miliseconds!

reply

Great answer....I agree BIG TIME.

reply

It could go either way. They're pretty much equals.

You know what that seems like the best answer yet!

Thanks. Both Terry Bogard and Ryu Hoshi kick ass, and if they were to fight, it would probably be a neverending battle similar to the fights Kazuma and Ryuho have with each other in S-cry-ed.

Well you have to take into account that Ryu had trouble beating a man with the powers of a demon and Terry defeated a god. Terry has mastered his body, training in many styles while as anoter said Ryu has only trained in Shotokan. As well while Ryu is the main focus of the SF storyline, he lacks the heart that Terry has. Terry was driven to fight and be the best to avenge his father and his love. Its only with Sulias death does Terry have the drive necessary to destroy Mars. Ryu wanted to be the best simply because, he has tunnel vision and is only pushed to his potential when in danger of losing. Sure, he wants to avenge Gokens death, but he loses to Sagat, and is overtaken by the Dark Hadou and destroys Sagats chest. I mean, thats unsportsmanship right there. I think though it would be a tough battle, I think Ryu would unleash the Dark Hadou and Terry would utilize the Martial arts and Jeff Bogard-derived Kenka Sappou (Deadly Brawling Arts) as well as the Hakkyokuseiken. And would ultimately defeat Ryu, who doesnt have access to all the moves that Akuma/Shin Akuma does. Though I doubt Terry would kill Ryu, whereas Ryu, if he were to win-which is highly unlikely given the canon for both characters from both game and anime series-possessed by the DH, may inadvertantly kill Terry. But Terry wins is what Im saying.

Run.

Ryu.

I respect Terry and acknowledge his skill, but he's too much of a straight forward fighter. Ryu is too crafty for him and will definitely see his attacks coming. Terry is all power and isn't necessary a smart fighter whereas this is one of Ryu's main strengths.

Remember, in a fight, it's not always how strong you are. It's how well you out fight your opponent, and in that regard Ryu is second to none.

reply

I disagree on that...even though I respect your answer. Terry is not all about power...Terry is a smart fighter and he is about learning from the fight. As well you have to remember Terry is skilled in different types of martial arts due to his training/plus surviving in the mean streets of Southtown.

reply

I respect and love Terry. But... there is something about Ryu... he just seems to have more focus, more determination. I don't know, for me it's too close to tell. I guess I can't pick one over the other. They're both devastatingly skilled fighters.

A LOT of people make two mistakes when it comes to Ryu:

- "Hoshi"
- Shotokan.

It was Capcom USA that called the Shotos' fighting style Shotokan. Their fighting is nothing like Shotokan (it's got a kick or two...). The style was called Ansatsuken, the "Assassin's Fist" which is a mixed martial arts system. Capcom USA is crap... don't call Ryu's style Shotokan (why would he stick with just one style if he goes around to fight the strongest people? wouldn't it be logical to change and adjust certain aspects of the style?). Don't try to counter my Capcom USA argument. They called Blanka's style Capoeira, when it was just some random beast-slash'n'bite style. I'm a capoeirista myself, and no, that's NOTHING compared to it.

I'll make this one quick cause I'm sleepy: Hoshi is NOT his last name. The company who made the anime//movie (forgot which one, maybe both)

So yeah. Terry vs Ryu. Terry's got the same kind of "I'm losing. Lemme kick ass now." attitude as Ryu but he's got Ken's cheerfulness. It's really hard to choose. In terms of fighting games, I'd say Ryu. He has the Tatsumaki, an attack that propels him forward and protects his front and back, while Terry has the Burning Knuckle which only protects his front (although it's fast)

Ryu's got the Hadoken, and Terry's got the Power Wave. Power Wave would go under projectiles (not always of course) while Hado would only cancel the other one out. Ryu has Shakunetsu Hadoken, however. That adds FALL.

Terry has Crack Shoot (Power Charge, Sliding Kick, etc etc), a bunch of attacks Ryu doesn't. However, Ryu's got ridiculous priority when it comes to his Shoryuken. It also causes immense damage.

For supers, Terry has Power Geyser, that High Angle Geyser thing and Buster Wolf. Power Geyser's a powerful, three hit super, HA Geyser isn't so fun and Buster Wolf seems to be his strongest//fastest super.
Ryu's got Shinkuu Hadoken, a multi-hitting projectile, Shinkuu Tatsumaki, this weird "spin in place" tatsumaki vaccuum super, Denjin Hadoken, an unblockable, and Shin Shoryu, ridiculous damage if connected.

I vote Ryu.

Now for the movies. If you talk about the movies, then it would be Terry. I always thought the SNK characters were more human than the Street Fighter characters (CHUN LI TURKEY LEGS LOLWTF), so when I see Terry popping a Geyser and making this whole building blow up, it kind of feels exaggerated. But using the movies as evidence, Terry would win.

But then, there's Satsui no Hado Ryu. He's got Metsu Shoryuken, a dive kick, a teleport (very useful for Satsui no Hado fighters), and the Shun Goku Satsu. One grab and it's over for Terry. Only Gen survived it if I'm not mistaken. Gen was a kung fu master and emptied his soul. In the Shun Goku Satsu, the user temporarily brings the opponent into hell, where demons hack at the opponent's soul. By emptying his soul and meditating at some supersonic rate, he managed to survive it.

No, Terry can't survive the Shun Goku Satsu. Maybe have a few minutes of drama "I'm on the floor bleeding. Come talk to me before I die. Then some dramatic music will play." thing, but that's it.

God?
Heh, I don't wanna have anything with him.

Demon? No, Akuma isn't a demon at all. Akuma was again some stupid thing Capcom USA did. Gouki's his name in Japan, and it means "powerful spirit". Akuma in Japanese would pretty much mean demon. It sounded "badass" to them, so they used it.

The "tian" Kanji symbol that appears on Gouki's back after a fight means "ten" and also "sky/heaven". From what I've read, Man can't go past the number 9. Therefore, "above 9" would mean "above Man". And that's what Gouki says he is. Above man. And yeah, he is. Teleporting all over the place and stuff.. I mean... that's kinda freaky.

So that demon vs god thing... I don't agree at all.

I say Gouki would kill both of them.

Shin Gouki > Satsui no Hado Ryu > Gouki > Ryu > Terry > Ken.

Now, supposedly Ryu's SF3 incarnation already beats Satsui no Hado Ryu. But Gouki's always training (it's all he's been doing since he killed Gouken//Goutetsu), so yeah. If you forget about the Satsui no Hado version of Ryu, it would be...

Shin Gouki > Gouki = Ryu > Terry > Ken

And besides. Wild Wolf Terry doesn't fight as much as Ryu.

reply

I think it could go either way. Although I do love the Capcom Vs. SNK 2 trailer ending with Terry about to do The Power Geyser and Ryu about to do the Shin Shoryuken to each other at the same time!

Do you smell what Barack is cooking?
