Ah well the end of the version i've seen has him on the post like you said, but he's sort of simultaneously laughing and crying, muttering about something being funny. doesn't seem too dead to me.

even in the cut version doesn't his last scene have a huge stream of blood start running from his mouth as he suddenly stops laughing and dies?

Max Taylor was crude and cocky. Christopher Price said that card will befriend you all evening. The card was the joker. The joker/funnyman taught Max cruel lesson by sticking him on a pole, tickling his feet, all the same time. The lesson is, there are even more cruel people/beings in this world besides Max Taylor.
