Why do some feel the need to defend this movie?

After reading over the topics on this board, I've noticed that those who like this movie use the same defense over and over: you just don't GET it. Why can't people just dislike the film? No matter what film you pick, there are always going to people who GET it and don't like it. It seems you don't GET the fact that other people may have different opinions than you. I thought this film was unoriginal and unfunny. Yes, I got it so don't tell me that I didn't. Stop writing condescending comments about Americans just because people are writing negative comments about some movie you seem to be defending to death.
