For some reason the scene has always had sort of a creepy vibe to it. Not really the sequence itself, but the little bit after Forrest talks about how he was shot and then the screen goes to snow. It's like they intentionally wanted you to feel like you were watching an Inside Edition/DatelineCurrent Affair-type show as opposed to it just being the show/television going off the air. That and/or the effect of an overexposure sorta thing involving his celebrity status. This doesn't have anything to do with Poltergeist making television snow creepy either, so I'm not sure why that little moment was haunting for me even at 6 years old.

Thats odd 'logic'. Does one have to be a gourmet chef to hate a meal? An architect to hate a house? An acclaimed artist to hate some art?

No but you keep it to yourself because famous people can't choose the nature / level of their fame. They're often just trying to create what they and/or the public enjoy, innovate in making an artistic or political stance, play to enough people that they can make a steady wage. If you HAVE to spout why Lennon or anyone else is overrated then provide a subjective argument why. If you properly thought about it , you might realise that indie band number 434667777 is struggling because they never wrote Because in 1968/9 when there was little or no precedent for it.

No, but it's also odd logic when millions of people and experts in the field declare something very well done, but one person calls it overrated.

Like the people who go on IMDB to declare something overrated. It's not. People rated something as they saw fit.

The detractors need to realize they're not the final authority on something being "overrated." They don't get to decide for others.

In my personal opinion it was meant to show you that even someone as "slow" as Forrest was knew that that was a tragedy.
