what did they did to my childhood fantasy crush is unexcusable and ruined all the special memories that other people have of their childhood tv crushes...casting rosie o'donnell as betty rubble is like asking jack black to pose for a new venus of milo painting-

reply

i also think thes movie is underrated, i put it int eh same catagory as pluto nash, incredible sets that bring a fantasy world to life, the acting is on par and the plot is ok. its not a great movie but its not a 4.5

Just wanted to point out the Flintstones cartoon was from the 1960's, not the 1950's. The series ran from 1960 to 1966.

reply

i think the problem with making a movie from a cartoon is that Fred, Barney and Wilma and Betty have been etched into my mind as a child. Nobody was ever going to be able to make a movie work because of the characters and how most people remember them.

The movie tries its best, does not take itself seriously and for some children it may entertain. Problem that I see is that most young children were not brought up on flintstones so the excitement is not as great for them. And for adults (my comments above stand).

There have been worse movies made by far. But this one was forgetable for me.

I've been watching this for 30 minutes.... and have to agree with your post in its entireity.

reply

aside from the whole betty rubble = rosie

this movie was awesome.

reply

Funny, I also put it into the same category as "Pluto Nash", but for different reasons than you.

I agree! I had some good chuckles! Really liked it and gave it a solid 7. Also watched Hot Rod with Andy Samberg which was horrible and had an IMDB rating of 7 something (generously gave it a 5)! But hey Trump just got elected so there's no accounting for taste.

the venus de milo wasn't a painting.

reply

whoa! that's harsh.

reply

It's not underrated, it's rated at just about where it should be: as a big steaming pile. Imagine making a film out of a cartoon which was so-so to begin with.

It would probably be less criticized if Betty Rubble was played by a woman.

I think it's a awesome movie, perfect cast and I mean perfect cast cuz even thosr rosie didn't look it she acted a great betty for us.John goodman was perfect for fred, and rick was a absolute joy as barney and besides that. This movie was fun and had sweet special effects, how cool is it that they made this and they did it right.Very underrated classic In my opinon, people who can't like this I don't get because it is a almost perfect live action version of the cartoon.

reply

The rating is appauling, it's a good kids movie that isn't animated. Definatly a good movie for the young ones.

I reakon John Goodman was born for this role, certaintly played it well, looked the part.

I am - SUPERFLUOUS!!!

Good movie...underrated...not an Oscar contender but it wasn't trying to be. I just don't see why there are haters...

reply

Me neither, it was (and is) a good movie. The haters are just 12yo kiddies on the net, as usual.

Exactly what I was thinking. I mean, it's a Flintstones movie. What are people comparing this to when giving it such a low score? Some haters just be hatin' but come on... This is actually one of the better live action adaptations of a cartoon I've ever seen. It's not a deep plot, not fantastic acting, but it's well done, I enjoyed the fact they used puppets and creature art rather than CGI (which you know they would use instead if they made it today. Ugh.)

I think the movie gets high props because it's as close to the source material as live action adaptations go. It's certainly much better than the dreary sequel they made.

reply

Even though I prefer the Flintstones cartoons I thought this was a good live action flick based on one of my favorite cartoons, I wouldn't call it a classic either but I give the movie an 8/10
