Why not cast Sharon Stone as Sharon Stone?

.......Seems like a missed opportunity.

Must had been a scheduling conflict with Basic Instinct. That came out the same year.

From the IMDB Trivia section on this movie;

"Fred Flintstone's secretary is named Sharon Stone. The role was meant to be played by actress Sharon Stone as a joke, but she turned it down due to scheduling conflicts."

They originally wanted the character's name to be Rosetta Stone but testing showed most people wouldn't get the joke. After they renamed her, they tried to get Sharon, as the other poster stated.

Didn't they rename the character 'Sharon Blackstone'?
