Superiority?

I'm just wondering if I'm the only person who thinks that, despite its flaws, this film is hugely superior to the modern take on the FF? Without having CGI to fall back on this movie concentrated on story and characters, especially the Torch! Just check out the pose when he's lobbing fireballs! Thing was cool, in a turtley way lol and it even managed to stay pretty much true to their origin. In my opinion, bin the remake and its sequel and repair this movie. Just keep George Lucas away from it!!!

I definitely think this one is far better than the 2005 movie. Cheap but fun.

Reading some of the replies, it looks like you're not the only one who thinks that way. But, I have to disagree.

The 1994 version was very slow, even though it was actually less than 90 minutes long.

Every time the Fantastic Four were offscreen, the movie really dragged. Don't get me started on the stupid henchmen.

The 2005 version wasn't good either. I won't bother to watch the sequel.

However, I think 1994 did a better job of casting Sue Storm. She was much better than Jessica Alba. Anyone agree with me? Anyone?

*crickets*

OK, I guess I'm alone on that one.

no! i whole-heatedly agree with you!!

so many other and better choices!
rachel mcadams
naomi watts (my pick)
scarlett johansen!

the list goes on and doesnt include jes-suck-a(original, i know!) alba!!!!

Naomi Watts would be the choice if they wanted to do a serious adaptation, like they did with X-Men.

But for the half-arsed ones they're doing here, Scarlett Johansson would bring in the teenage fanboys, and do better acting than Jessica Alba.

This version is f(_)cking terrible the new one is miles better which lmfao isn't saying anything compared to the entertaining steaming $hit pile this movie was.

I've found that there are generally two types of reviews online; those that take into account all the behind the scenes problems and look favorably on the film, and those who just savage the film because it doesn't meet their standards of what a good movie should be (often directed at the special effects).

I tend to fall into the first category, though I think this film has some kitch value as a cheesy b-movie. I've even invented a drinking game for it.

Overall, I think this version has a better script and was more true to the spirit of the original characters. I always wondered how this film would have turned out if there were a bigger budget, a better director, and a better cast. Not that the cast was totally horrible, I just think they did the best they could with what they had to work with. Plus I think they were limited with Special Effects at that time, even if they did have a bigger budget.

I was extremely disappointed with the 2005 version and how they changed some of the original storyline. I absolutely hated how they totally changed Dr. Doom and gave him powers to boot. I did dig the special effects. I thought the sequel was much better, and it seemed like the studio actually listened to their fans for a change. There were some goofy parts, but I don't think that this is meant to be taken so seriously. As for Jessica Alba, I think she is one of the most attractive actresses in Hollywood, however, I think the role of Sue Storm could have been better played by someone else. Not sure who though. You want someone who is obvioulsy attractive, but someone who can convey a sense of confidence, intelligence and control.

Just my opinion.

I think story wise the 1994 Fantastic Four movie is better, sure it needs some segments deleted to quicken the pace, but at least now there could be a special Edition, were they could put this movie to DVD, and redo the Cheesy scenes with todays CGI, I agree the Doom in the 2005 version was weak compared to the 1994 version!, This movie is as close as you can get to the comics version of the FF, even with it's minor Special Effects, The story, the actors/actoresses, and directing is great!, Did anybody notice the professor in the beginning, he is the old guy ( With the fish ) from Police Academy!, The actor who played victor Von Doom is the son of Robert Kulp from the Greatest American Hero series!, and the actor who played Reed richards was in the second season of Buck Rogers!

reply

I definately prefer the Corman version! Doctor Doom is actually Doctor Doom as oppossed to the more recent films. I thought the movie had a lot of heart and the cast was terrific!

No Torch/Thing rivalry.
No evidence of Ben relying solely on his strength or Johnny being a hothead.
How exactly did the FF their powers? I remain confused about this.
How was Alicia able to recognize Ben, when his appearance and voice changed?
Why weren't any of the monikers used?

Far better than the 2005 crap and its sequel, but don't forget the next version in 2015, it will suck even more !

See for yourself; at the head of this reboot will be :

Josh Trank the guy who directed the awful "Chronicle"...and Seth Grahame-Smith, the guy who wrote Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Dark Shadows.

And the funniest/saddest part; Johnny Storm AKA the Human torch will be played by Michael B Jordan, you know, the black guy in Chronicle, friend of Josh Trank...

And of course his sister will remain white, wouldn't have been fun in the other way, If the movie going this way, at least let's go to the summum of the height of absurdity !

I hope Marvel/Disney will regain the rights for Spidey, FF and everything else, it really suck to let those franchise in the hands of such imbeciles...

Watch your language.

The stuff you mentioned are still in rumor stage.

Took a long time for the first Fox Film to get green-lit. Do you think this could also be true for the reboot?

Ben Grimm forever!

Better script maybe. They got the characters right.

I kinda like the bit when Reed explains how the "cosmic ray storm" somehow reached into their psyche and gave them their powers (e.g. Johnny being "hot-headed", Sue being shy to the point of "invisibility", etc.). It sort of made sense to me. I would have liked to see a similar explanation in the new ones.

It's not a bad film. There are definitely worse and the 2000s Fantastic Four is one of them.
You can tell they put serious effort into doing the best job they could with what little they had. The only things that really hurt it is the lack of budget obviously and the Jeweler villain. If he had been the Mole Man it would have been better.
Even the limited FX are not bad for the time. There is just too little of it.

What is unfortunate it is it gets knocked yet is dramatically better than the 2005 (and probably the newest version).
How is it that a film costing $1 million could afford a script, decent actors and direction but films costing 20 times as much cant?

Have you seen the 2015 version yet?

I agree, it is sad that the this is the best version of the F4.
