Why make it at all?

I understand that the film was made because the producers were at risk of losing the rights... So they had to quickly rush the film into production and make it... albiet at the poorest quality possible. Here's my question though... If they weren't planning on releasing it, then why bother making it at all? Could they even make money off it if it was going to be quickly canned?

To keep the rights

Like the other poster, the movie info and even yourself said. To keep the rights. If they didn't make the movie, they would lose the rights. "Could they even make money off it" No. But the point wasn't to make money, but to retain the rights until they could make a movie that they could make money off of.

You can't just keep the rights active for something, even by paying for the rights. You actually have to do something with the product you have the rights to. Another example is that ages ago DC didn't have a regular Wonder Woman comic. She merely appeared in other comics. However they wanted to retain the rights, so that another company can't release a "Wonder Woman" titled comic, so even though they paid for the copyright, they still had to occasionally release something under that copyright, to retain it. So they released a single Wonder Woman comic every once in awhile to meet the requirement and retain the rights to the comic name.

You asked:
"If they weren't planning on releasing it, then why bother making it at all?"
After you previously answered:
"because the producers were at risk of losing the rights"

To Love and win is the best thing. To Love and lose, the next best.
