conversation about the movie

Let's talk about the movie. Let's talk about what parts we liked the best and what we didn't like etc... I liked the humor involved in the movie. I didn't like that it wasn't more like the book. Next?

It's an interesting movie because it feels almost like the people that made it were uncomfortable with the subject matter. They took a lot of the basic plot elements of the book because they were kind of taboo and would draw people into the theaters, but then imposed kind of a new main plot over it which was mostly a comedy almost to distract us from the S&M themes...and maybe even steer the movie away from an X rating.

It's almost saying to us "I'm not really pornography, but you can pretend I am if you'd like!"

If you don't think it's possible to make Rosie O'Donnell blush, just watch her when somebody mentions this movie, she's not at all comfortable talking about it. Sometimes I think the reason you can't find the DVD is because every time they make them Rosie buys them all and burns them!

-not a great date movie, especially at date counts low enough you still keep track of the number. At less than three I desperately avoided movies mentioning marriage or kids. Movies mentioning S&M are on another planet by this standard!
