Any chance of a serious remake?

Just saw the movie again for the first time this century and i remember all the uproar about how much it differed from the book. I wonder now that a movie like 50 Shades is getting a major push if they would ever consider a serious remake. Theres more mainstream appeal to that subject matter now. I didnt think the movie was that terrible but then again i never read the book. Any thoughts?

Sorry Brother.

If Fifty Shades makes it big it's almost certain...

The only thing sort of in the way is the original's reputation as a stinker.

(-which is not entirely deserved.)

I've read the book prior to the movie. There are differences between the movie and the book but the movie did keep several key portions from the book and the spirit of the book was in the movie.
I didn't think the movie was that bad but it could have done without the stupid cop/diamond smuggling plot line. (Though Dan Akyroyd was funny in it and he's one of the movie's bright spots.)
Even though 50 Shades of Grey is extremely popular and pushed the subject matter into the mainstream, I doubt that any major studio will take the time to do a proper remake because there's no money in it for them. The only reason that 50 Shades was made is because of the money that it is guaranteed on opening weekend.
Exit to Eden doesn't have that rep. It's not even on Blu-Ray yet.
The only way this can be possibly redone is for the movie is independently financed or adapted to cable television as a series or a mini-series.
I'm hoping for a new version done right or a Blu-Ray release of the original film.
Despite its rep, it is truly a erotic, classy and sexy story.

The premise of this movie is almost spot on for a sequal to The Heat. Odonnell and Aykroyd's charectors are identical to McCarthy and Bullock.

The novel was a straight-up erotic potboiler. I'm sure Anne Rice wrote it early in her career for the money. Jaqueline Suzanne (as well as many other hacks) was much better with this kind of material.

A straightforward, serious movie version would have been boring. Something on par with the Lifetime Network. Making it stupid was the only way to keep it interesting. I thought the cop, diamond thief subplot was a major improvement.

Let's face it: Dan "Big Boy" Aykroyd and Rosie O'Donnell saved this movie. This was Rosie's movie all the way!
