What was the intended point of the film?

What was the intended point of the film? When I saw this on Netflix, the picture they use to advertise the movie makes it look like the lady is happy and has triumphed over some adversity. The movie itself is completely different. What do you think the film's intended message was? Was this meant just for a communist Chinese audience?

I'm pretty sure it was just the classic possessions don't bring happiness. You see what she went through to get her dream tv, but in the end of wasn't worth it. I didn't watch the whole movie, just skipped around.
