A real eclipse?

I can't find any record of a total solar eclipse that would have been visible in Toronto around the time this movie was made (early 1990s). There was an annular eclipse (where a ring of the sun shows around the moon) in May of 1994 that may have been visible in Toronto, but the movie shows a total eclipse, not an annular eclipse. Does anybody from Toronto know anything about this? Is the eclipse shown in this movie for real, or is it fictional, or is it based on the 1994 annular eclipse but with images from a total eclipse somewhere else? Would a city like Toronto have gone nuts over an annular eclipse, as this movie portrays it?
