Great film

This film is terrific. It has cast a spell over me much the way Madchen Amick's character did over James Spader. The chronological progression of the relationship is especially appreciated, so that we see how innocent and seemingly coincidental it all started, and how desperate and ugly things can end. Most people know James Spader as the preppy jerk from Pretty In Pink, but since I've never seen that, my association with him will always be as this warm, vulnerable lover he portrays so well here. And of course Madchen Amick, who I had previously seen in a limited role in Twin Peaks, shows amazing range and complexity. She is both beautiful and talented and it's a shame her career didn't take off more. This film fits Spader's quirky filmography but it should have been Amick's breakout performance. It is for me, anyway. Effective and entertaining film with excellent performances, dialogue, and editing. Highly recommended minor classic.
