It's definitely a mystery thriller, but it also has horror elements.

It's a bit of everything really,there are stronger elements of psychological drama through it than a thriller.

Although this film/book doesn't focus on the supernatural or traditional horror elements as much as other King stories, it definitely sheds light on the real-life family horrors of incest, abuse, alcoholism, etc. If you think about it, these things are present in a lot of King's stories; even when he's dwelling more in the supernatural, he's always interested in the way the "real" horror is really in the way we sometimes treat each other as humans.
