Why is there a pool of acid in a clothing design shop?

For that matter, why was there a giant saw in the same clothing design shop? You know, the one the bad guys used to cut the fat manager with in the beginning. I guess I just don't know much about fashion, but I figure that the designers use a chain-saw sized saw to cut their fabric with, and if, OOOPS, they make a mistake, they throw the fabric into the giant pool of bubbling acid. Okay, that makes perfect sense.

On page 583 of the International Bad Guys Handbook it clearly states
that any and all hideouts and/or evil lairs MUST have installed in working order at least one vat of acid at least 100 gallons in size filled with acid with a corrosive rating of 8.3. or above.

While that whole design shop/dry cleaning joint/document shredding station
set came straight out of (Bad)Hollywood, the big saws are actually used in the
garment trade. When cutting out the separate pieces of a coat or shirt or whatever
they stack a whole buttload of the fabric and cut a bunch of layers at the same time.

That's my shop, that's why!

Maybe it was some heavy duty bleach, but then again if I fell into a vat of bleach I'd know to get out really quick. Yeah...maybe i was acid.

Liquid plastic.
The factory wear the clothes and the mannequins are made.

I love how it was fenced off with a sign that said "TOXIC AREA".

Cloth can only be destroyed by acid. DUH!

It's a vat of liquid plastic.

Acrylic acid for sure.

I'd have to agree. WHY were they there?

It's a vat of scalding wax. It's not acid.

Acid wash jeans. D'uh!

I thought they showed the pool being used properly at the beginning, when the bad guy dropped the mannequin into it. Remember, used mannequins have to be destroyed completely, because otherwise they might come to life and start complaining about everything they have to put up with. Just throwing them out in a dumpster really isn't an option.

That was the very first question that came to my mind when I watched this.

Or they might come to life looking like Kim Catrall and hook up with the store VP like in Mannequin.

I know. I was actually waiting for there to be a hidden floor panel that rolled back to reveal a large tank of piranhas as well.

I always wondered why there was a big grinder at the end of that swinging door.

it does seem like an OSHA violation, and their worker's comp premiums would be really high.
